Hi all,

I have a super hard (to me) question for you all~

What would make you fall in love with a villain and side with them?

The concept of a villain is constantly changing but in general known as the harmful presence to the majority. What I'm doing right now, is to try and craft the perfect villain. Or, as close to perfect I can get. The reason for it is that I'm doing an apocalypse plot for a NightWorld RP.

If you don't know what NightWorld is, that's fine. All I'm asking is about the Villain. Starring in the plot, is the Red Horseman. He's human, and leader of the rebellion against the NightWorld. NightWorld is a society consisting of people like vampires, werewolves, shifters and witches. Essentially, most of those doing the RP are with NightWorld characters and humans are to be the evil party this time around.

In a sense, you can say he's a hero of humanity. But in the POV of my other RP players' characters, he's evil. I don't want a movie villain, or a villain you can discard at the end of everything. I want to make him loved and desired, a leader of the people and one who his enemies'd respect.

I suppose, in a sense, I'm trying to do something like Ubel Blatt and Akumetsu but without the 'good intentions'.

I'm also very visual so I had to get a model for him. So far, I got Russell Giardina Peter Badenhop.
I'm going for lean, mean, fighter and looks that can be cruel enough to bring about apocalypse.
It took ages for me to find Russell, since I was avoiding the generic fashion polished look.
If you know of anyone else, please recommend them to me too!

Cheers and TY!

I'd fall in love and side with a villain if they were
Charismatic
Honorable
or if I hate the system that they're trying to destroy. (or if I hate the world in general)

Heroic Villain, perhaps. (Like what you said, Pizhhh) But then do they still count as villains?

Actually, anybody like the Phantom. (Phantom of the Opera, in case it wasn't obvious)

Phantom's good. I would have used Gerald Butler but they be too noble to be leading a rebellion :P

A shitty protagonist

the quality of main characters specifically in shonen manga has gotten so bad recently that bad guys look more appealing and rational since standards for a convincing villain have gone up
might also have something to do with cultural backlash/regression but that's more of an american response to japanese manga

Unfortunately, my white horse is just as awesome as the rest of the characters by other people... :(

But I agree. Some heroes aren't as convincing as the antagonists which were worked on.

hmm ... a likeable villain, quite a nice question indeed~ ...

I suppose, in a sense, I'm trying to do something like Ubel Blatt and Akumetsu but without the 'good intentions'.

oh, ubel blatt and akumetsu were great~ ... "no good intentions", do u mean that your villain should be completely evil? so no grand reason as to why he wants to bring apocalypse?

I like villains who are smart or witty and have some sort of purpose, a purpose which is not too obvious and is only revealed bit by bit to make him more mysterious~ ...
I guess thats what I like about good villains, the mystery and the riddle behind them ... but thats just my opinion~ ...
and with smart I mean, they should be very calculative, insightful and manipulative ... brainless villain are boring from my point of view~ ...
also, a good villain should undergo some character development too as the antagonist and not stay stagnant the whole time~ ...

This is what makes a villain likeable for me~ ...

Pretty much. He has a back story but its not so much a sob story as an excuse for him to pick a fight.

I still have no idea how to give my villain mystery since he's going to be quite proactive and he's the only villain in the plot so far. (Have to drag other people in to make other villains too somehow) Any ideas? @.@ Most villains aren't the 'main characters' and you don't see them often or their POV. Those that do are anti-heroes and to make the difference between anti-heroes and villains is difficult.

I can do this... I think. Character development... Hm...

u can make him more mysterious by making him less talkative or even stoic ... basically if he could only be described by his actions mostly he would be a bit more mysterious ...
this is just an example ... his outfit could make him mysterious too ... how about some sort of mask for example? or anything else u would like ...

and if he is proactive then the overall intentions of his actions shouldnt be made too obvious, ... what i mean is that it shouldnt be obvious where his actions are gonna lead the rp to ...

if u want more villains, how about announcing that u need more villains to the other players and see who volunteers?
or pm the ppl with the "antiheroes" if they would be willing to work on a more villainous character ...
usually those who play as an antihero are the ppl most likely to take the role of an antagonist ...

In fiction, an antihero[1] (sometimes antiheroine as the feminine) is generally considered to be a protagonist whose character is contrary to that of the archetypal hero, yet typically retains many heroic qualities. Some consider the word's meaning to be sufficiently broad as to additionally encompass an antagonist who, in contrast to the archetypal villain, elicits considerable sympathy or admiration.

this is the definition of antihero (in wikipedia)... and i would even say u r going the antihero route yourself with your antagonist since u r aiming for him to be respected and liked ... and isnt he a hero of humanity in the end also?
which is why the antiheroes are your best source of villains and antagonists from my point of view ...

I can do this... I think. Character development... Hm...

haha^^ ... well, character development requires a lot of thought u have to put into your character but it is certainly doable~ ...

hope I could help~^^ ...

I'm probably going to scout for the other players first. Their villains are pretty much the scrap characters that have ended already. I probably have to ask them to create new ones. Else I won't even be able to do less talking and stuff. Dear Leader/General Red Horseman... ahaha he was already foretold by another player's seer character as 'Beware of Red'. Hope I can keep the mystery up.

I suppose, though he's hardly doing this for the humans. There's a manipulator behind the scenes, he's just the executive of the plan which the process is his goal rather than the result. My Red Horseman is good. :3

hmm ... yeah, that would be a good idea too xD ...

and hey~ a prophecy adds to the mystery~ xD because a prophecy can be ambiguous~ ...
if u can play your cards well in that case, and increase the tension till the climax, i guess it would become really epic~ ...

ah, so he is an executive ... in that case stoic fits even better, dont u think so? not allowing himself to have emotions and executing his orders or goals mercilessly without hesitation ...

red horseman is handsome~^^ ... his face is great, but i wasnt talking about his looks, but his outfit ...
adding some special and mysterious detail to his outfit like a pendant with a special meaning or something completely different ...
mask was only an idea~ ...

It's taking me a while to flesh out my White Horse who's already in action. He's the one currently going out with the Witch Seer. Another human too. :D
-is playing on both sides- The White Horse is the real 'hero' in this plot. He's saving the other players' characters and being fair to both sides.

Maybe something like Lelouche's personality... I'd consider stoic too, still debating on him overall. On the other hand...I'm so tempted to make him love anchovies...

The mystery accessory sounds awesome. :3 I'd add that in. I'm probably going to keep changing his clothes to the place and time.

I'm all ready to make him crazy or a rainbow afro wig if I have to. Though I doubt anyone wants a rainbow afro wig on him...

I'd make sure to keep the accessory backstory in mind. :)

I love three types of Villains

1. Classy, Genius, Dark and Humble

2. Dark, Creepy, Genius, and Quiet

3. My favorite. Those villains who shed light on the utmost realms of insanity that few have ever dared to go before.

Dark, Genius, Insane, Hysterical, and Completely Chaotic
