The way I see it, the barrier is like a double-edged sword. It does two things:
- Form a "resistance" that prevents those without similar resistance from activating it
- Drain your vigor when you do activate it

For the resistance part, an example could be like handling hot coal with your bare hands (except here it's with your magical affinity instead, something like that). If you're triple-fire, you can handle the coal okay. If you're triple something-else, your attributes will form a strong enough barrier to protect you against the resistance as well, though you're not as well suited to handling that element. If you are not a triple though, your scattered elements are too weak to protect you against the barrier's resistance.

Now, I have a very simple view of what Asha did, which is that we have No idea what she did. The other magicians also said that what she did was theoretically impossible. Somehow she changed the barrier attributes. Is it because she added another spell layer that first changed the barrier attributes before activating it? Or is it because she has such godly high divine affinity that she was able to force the barriers to attune to Her attributes instead?

I have a theory that Asha may be the child of a human of a God, or at least raised by a God. Either that, or there's some divine item or presence where her right arm is supposed to be. Could that be why she was able to change the barrier's attributes? Here's another question: what happens when the barrier is activated by a God of different alignment? Does it stay in its element, or does it attune to the other God's element?

Basically, my view is that there are too many unknowns to know what Asha did. When the explanation does come it's probably some awesome jaw-dropping explanation, but in the meantime I have no idea what it is. >.>;;

Ah, to answer Tigu, Visnu is the God of Resurrection (in the sense of returning things to a previous state), and the novel confirms that he can also manipulate time. All Primeval Gods actually have 2 attributes, though they are more commonly known by one each:
- Visnu - Resurrection
- Kali - Chaos
- Shiva - Destruction
- Brahma - Creation

Visnu is most likely the God of Resurrection and Time. He's also the God with the best Insight out of all of them: he can see the consequences of all "choices" ever taken (which is interesting in the sense that it shows that the future is not pre-determined: there are various possible paths. Visnu could select a path he likes and nudge things towards it.

Hmm, ok, from this explanation i take it that Agni-Agni-Brahma mage suffers more resistance than Brahma-Brahma-Brahma mage, from trying to handle an Agni barrier orb.

About Asha, changing attributes, gods and the defence system in general... i agree, we really dont know, how Asha managed it, and if there were any side effects. I tend to think, that a God should be able to temporarily? change the barrier's attribute... but this is pretty much a baseless guess.

That left me to wonder, how a barrier orb got it's attribute in the first place, and how many orbs are there, aswell as what part do they play in the defence system?

From what i understand, the orbs were created by Brahma, (on Visnu's command?) and are a godly, indestructible item, much like the 'Visnu earrings', and cannot be reproduced. I have no knowledge of how and when the orb got it's attribute, which seems to be integrated to it (once it has an attribute, it is unchangeable - did the one Asha operate revert back to Agni, or did it need to be replaced?). Nor do i know how many there are... that is if their function is to provide humans with defence from Suras, and seem to be kept in major cities and shrines, how come a testing facility in Rindhallow has 11? And its part in the defence system... i had previously thought that the defence system as a whole was created by Brahma, and the Orb is simply a small part of it, but it seems the Orb is the only godly part of the defence system, while the towers (and the active barrier?) are man-made and simply powered by the Orb?

About the pre-determidness i guess it is a philosophical matter, and differs based on the author, or a person understands it. Personally i tend to believe in pre-determidness, but not in a fundamental sense. That is i dont belive events are purposefully pre-determined, instead if all the "variables" that affect a "choice" are always the same, then the path of the "choice" will always remain the same. Of course Visnu can see that path, and by nudging even a little (like snapping fingers where he previously didnt), he can create a new path in Time, however one can still ask, if the choices for nudges that Visnu makes themselves are not pre-determined. By observing the future, and choosing between different paths, you can say that Visnu is obtaining/altering the "variables" that determine his "choices", but always in that same way.

Omg! In the Finite, Utpala finally arrived to Mistyshore and started attacking to get Taksaka to come out! Tak told Ian that he's not a Half, told her not to be afraid, took her very fast out of the city and changed into Sura form with her on top (he's so friggin' Huge that she can't even tell what race he is from up there). And she sees Utpala in the distance too. She thinks it's Taksaka, and Tak ends the chapter by telling her that a red and black dragon is not necessarily Taksaka, and that the one she is on is also red and black.

Basically, Yay things are going pretty fast now! Maybe the novel won't drag on Too much after all! Omg I want the next chapter!

So yeah more detailed summary tomorrow.

Oh by the way, it turns out that Nastika can change their age appearance after all. Oops. I always assumed they couldn't, and that Taksaka could only do that thanks to the earrings. My bad!

I wonder what Sagara would do if she knew that Airi and Lorraine were calling her a Half. Poor Atera, getting invaded by two Nastikas and yet the people still don't believe that they could be in the human world.

But isn't Utpala a water dragon? How can he/she be red and black and not blue, white or turquoise, which reminds of water? I understand that Utpala is red because the vritra clan attribute is fire, but black?

Regarding god items, and the destruction of planets, made me wonder, if Willarv were to be destroyed, where then would the Sword of Return return... empty space where Willarv used to exist?
