Batotos has one of the most censored forums I have visited.

I've seen many a forum, but few have mods that are as quick to lock threads as the ones on Batoto. If they could figure out a way, I bet they would lock chat/shout out posts on the company page too.(fortunately it isn't something that allows such a thing)

This heavy censorship, which shows grumpys repeated statements of this being a place of lots of freedom of speech as a lie, does a great disservice to the site.

I am sick of it anyway. If nothing else, grumpy should at least admit to the fact that the only ones around here who have have freedom, are the mods who have the freedom to push around their power without constraint, closing threads on capricious whims. Yet mods themselves are allowed to act like asses if they wish without consequence.

I have tried to talk to mods before about unreasonably closing of threads and of inappropriate use of words on their part, but such PMs got ignored right away, no reply at all ever (One PM to offending mod I just sent out is a example of this where a suggestion thread was closed because a mod disagreed with the suggestion, thus turned it down by locking the thread. Not sure if I will get a reply back, probably not. I decided not to wait around a few days for a maybe reply to write this thread).

I have tried to talk to grumpy about all this in private, and while he did give me the great privilege of replying, it was all just a bit of meaningless run around that went nowhere (saying stuff like "case law" then contradicting it a little latter, too much to get into here) He appreciates that since it his his site that he can do what he wishes with it, say close it down tomorrow if he wishes, he will use that to take the course of least effort that favors his friends (I assume most or all of the mods here are friends of grumpy, how they got the position) I am sure that also nicely favors his ego.

If grumpy were to get smart and grow a heart, he'd send a strong statement to mods about not being so quick to close threads. But with our private exchange in mind, I am not holding my breath for this.

BTW, I do realizes grumpy is a busy individual, but what I am asking wouldn't take that much time or energy.

(wonders if this thread will be closed in an hour because its a direct complaint against the site)

While you may have a point I really don't think directly calling the owner of this site (that really does a lot to keep it a nice place to be) stupid, heartless and egocentric. At the same time it is a rather big accusation to say that all the mods have that position purely because they are friends with grumpy.

let me be clearer on my stand, i wanted to say that. The forum's are much more friendlier and sunny hence censored
and i really really appreciate that! alot...... other places are harsh and dirty

lol, I have yet to see a topic I didn't want closed. Every forum has a type of people it responds to, if you don't chose a audience you'll just end up with a heavy mess.

I personally don't think this forum is too heavily censored, for me it just seems that some people don't belong here.

But then again I haven't really seen that many closed topics yet, so I might be wrong. Do feel free to correct me.

Also, you make a lot of assumptions (based on your own opinion), and really seem quite offensive to me... (could be wrong though).

My impression isn't that Grumpy know the (most of the) mods personally, but rather he knows them from the forum, and truly trust those he select to be good mods, rather than picking random people.

You forgot to use capital letters in lol as it was the start of the sentence, and you have too many dots.

just to get back on topic again...

i really like the "heavy" modding on these forums. i find that i have a lot of freedom, as long as i stick to a few simple rules
without the censorship, i'm sure things would easily get out of hand. if that happens the owner of the site might just get tired of it and close everything down, and i wouldn't even feel like blaming him for it

the best thing would be if we can keep batoto a safe place even for 13-year-old kids. not a place where adult talk, flame wars, and spam ruins a good online community

I'm fine with the forum as they are, personally. Better than having too much freedom and things getting out of hand, like the general discussion recently.

Please give examples of what kind of threads have been closed.

All I'm getting (not sure if anyone else feels the same) is someone complaining about keeping the forums nice and friendly. This is how I'll judge with no examples.

And if you do find locked forums, please say as to why it was locked and why it shouldn't be locked. Sometimes the reason isn't so clear.

Also that last comment about locking this thread was over the top. If this thread goes out of hand it'll get locked no question.


As others have said the reason why the mods are able to oversee the forums as much as they can is because they can represent small groups of people easily. When sites gets bigger and their forums as well, the mods can't do as much because they represent larger amounts of people. You might call this a gift and a problem in the future that will be hard to solve.

i think that comment was about the overload of spam in the general discussion section before we got the new spam section..

and if you want to know which threads have been locked, go to the op's profile and find his content

Thanks. But I feel it was the op's job to tell me examples of his claim. And besides, it seems like I could only see 5 posts of his 88 total posts. And I've only found one locked thread and I consider it an reasonable lock.

It also helps his/her conclusion by giving the examples him/herself. That way people won't look in wrong places.

Threads I've been on have been closed. But I found most of them reasonable, rather than continuing to let it spiral out of control to god knows what oblivion.

It's very safe and comfortable and trolls are well managed. Of course, there is a lot of bias to scan teams mostly because its a biased audience on Batoto.
Anyone supporting other readers that Batoto's audience don't agree to is pretty much put down quickly.
Those threads are locked to prevent damage on both sides, which hey, I find is sensible.

It also cuts out a lot of useless spam threads that people create because they were too lazy/bored/etc that no body really cares about or replies to.
Saving the main threads that everyone love from disappearing.

I'd like to know what threads of yours were closed though, since you seem so upset about it.

I hope your joking...this forum barely has any moderating at all. its one of the least regulated ive been to lately.

Guess it depends on where you visit though. random manga or anime sites typically have clusterfucks of random people doing whatever they want while going "LOL TROLOL NARUTO FO EVA GUYS@@@!!!!!!!!" tis why i dont visit them.

I have to agree and disagree.

I was on a thread the other day that was shut down because it was going no where. That is not always a bad thing. Sometimes it is but not always.

That being said I have made some topics that other forums would have shut down instantly but they didn't here and they are still open.

So I kinda agree with you that some of the censoring is not good but at the same time I feel I have a little more freedom here then I do in other places

Mhh talks as though the thread exists to ask a question rather then to submit a suggestion and discuss it. But the way I read this between the lines, mhh closed the thread because he disagreed with the idea/suggestion, thus by denying the discussion of it, thus essentially denying the suggestion (maybe grumpy should be the only one that should be allowed to dismiss reasonable suggestions flat, don't you think?) It is true that the suggestion morphed a bit when more information was added in as most threads are prone to do (actually, this little bit of topic morph is mild compared to most, not surprising considering the thread hadn't even reached one full page yet.

Now if someone is being obnoxious, I understand that you want to curtail that. Though if the offender is someone other then the OP, mods should use means other then closing down threads to control the issue (leaving the OP not even knowing if it is OK to make a new thread or not) It's especially troubling when the offender is a mod. But none of that even matters, no one said anything at all offensive in this thread. I have had at least 3 threads locked on me off the top of my head, but I will limit my example to this one first to keep the discussion simpler.

I will leave the insult issue for another post after this example has been addressed first.
