I was actually surprised eyeglasses ranked so high. I would think that's simply a preference, and not a fetish. Because if you count glasses, you also have to count breast size. Which would mean a huge change in rankings, as tons of men prefer big breasts.

I'm also slightly offended that some stuff isn't listed higher than necrophiliacs. The list should totally have pettanko, zettai ryouiki, school swimsuit, nekomimi, etc, etc.
I'm only offended because they need more representation..... it's totally not that those are my own preferences. Honest!

Before you bash a series, at least try to understand it's genre and subtext. Things are not black and white. Pun intended.

I simply don't see a discussion, more of an offhand comment which was my whole point in case you missed it.

@Teks Are you a moderator? If so, then feel free to delete this topic.

Anyway, my point is that, according to the Oxford dictionary, a pervert is a person whose sexual behaviour is regarded as abnormal and unacceptable. Nonetheless, I imagine a hentai might not the same (I suppose hentai was the original word). Does it also imply abnormality or unacceptableness?

Yeah. Although, Otaku also does in Japan. When many Japanese think "Otaku", they think of those guys that get full body pillows of naked anime chicks.
Otaku and Hentai often intertwine. Because some take photos of girls underwear. >_>

Basically, Hentai = people who do strange things like sniff their sisters underwear or something.

That's just another way of saying you don't really understand how things work in a forum. I'm not saying that we'd rather not see higher quality posts filled with discussion, but simple comments are common here and there. No we did not miss anything, if anything we would not like to hear such offhand comments.

It's funny how any level of manga or anime obsession in Japan seems to correlate with an obsession with fan merchandise as we can see in Genshiken. I know people who are obsessed with reading manga and watching anime without having it affect their social life and personality but it ranges form person to person.

In America, some anime fans decided that, "otaku" was a positive term they could use for themselves with pride. I'm not sure what it's like in other countries, but it wouldn't be much of a stretch to think they do the same. Either way, I tend to distance myself from that term as I have relatives who are Japanese.

*Create small topic about a funny scene to discuss it that should die out after a while*
*rage about semantics regarding what constitutes a thread*
*conversation getting longer than it should have and spiraling into a new discussion that's completely different from it's original theme*

Either way, back to the random discussion.

@pillamelai so are you saying there's something wrong with transvestites? :P

Yeah, she totally hates them. ~_^

Not really. Transvestism doesn't have anything to do with sex; I think it's about gender identity.

Yeah, she totally hates them. ~_^

But I'm maaaaaaaale! D=
At least, is says so in my profile page.

I'm the proofreader for this series and what is really funny to me is that the translator didn't translate the pie chart because several of the Japanese symbols were too small to read clearly. So it was left to me and my twisted sense of humor to come up with some perversions that would seem fairly reasonable. Homosexuals got the ten% section because of a study that concluded that 10% of the population was gay. I actually thought that I would catch a lot more heat for my inclusion of necrophilia and bestiality which personally, caused me to laugh uncontrollably when I saw it sneak past our editor into the final release!! By the way, the admins at Death Toll try to keep me locked up as they seem to think that I have a corrupting influence on the more youthful members of our group!

Always yield to temptation, it may not come your way again!

Thank you for your attention.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled manga, already in progress.

Regarding the Otaku thing, I heard a lecture at university from a professor of japanology about that very word, and he explained that during the time when Japan sought to modernize its image and began exporting manga and anime in large quantities as well as using anime characters as identifiers, Otaku became a more accaptable term than it was before and would sometimes also be used in a more endearing form (like the guy who is a big fan and somewhat shy and socially inept, but in a cute way), similar to the word "nerd" in the US which evolved to be a more positive term as well.

Geeze, I would think that anyone posting on this site would be an otaku in one degree or another. I spend a large part of my free time reading manga (as well as other things, fiction and non-fiction) and have discovered that mangaka and their Chinese/Korean counterparts have just as much to tell the readers as writers of fiction and non-fiction from Dante to Stephen Jay Gould have. Manga is as legitimate a form of art and literature as Miyazaki and others have made anime into. If you get wrapped around the axle into lolicon or any other "deviant" (quotes to show this is a quote from the manga page linked to above and not my personal take) form of manga, well, as a student in English literature, you would probably be reading Anais Nin or some reasonable facsimile.

I'm 55 years old, male, hetero, and a retired US Marine, and I will proudly wear the Koi Neko tee-shirt my sister made me when I escort my niece and her friends to a K-Pop convention in Southern California this month. Otakus, hikimoris, and hermits of other kinds have been saints throughout history, as well as "deviants." Deviants, in case anyone is unfamiliar with the english language, means those who deviate from the normal. This would include athletes, scholars, saints, astronauts, artists, and a hell of a lot more people than those who drool over underage boys/girls.
