So it's that time of the year where i get to have time for myself and... well, other things. I'm on vacation and I'm currently bored despite the fact I have a lot things I could do with the internet. But that's a different case, really.

I could go look at reviews but I found out people really have different opinions on many things and reviews put me off most of the time.

Anyway, I'm sure most of you guys here have read a lot of books. Please post your favorite book and/or author that are good reads. It matters not what genre they fall in as long as you feel they're good. I'll be grateful if I can find a lot that'll tickle my fancy... so I can spend my Christmas bonus on getting them! Teehee~

Also, do tell why you recommend that specific book.

I recommend Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles trilogy. There are two books published, the last still in the making. He's really down to earth and really funny. He also likes xkcd, which is a plus factor trolololol.

My name is Kvothe, pronounced nearly the same as "quothe." Names are important as they tell you a great deal about a person. I've had more names than anyone has a right to. The Adem call me Maedre. Which, depending on how it's spoken, can mean The Flame, The Thunder, or The Broken Tree.

ooo... love this series!!! it was hard to follow up the "ender" and "bean" series by orson scott card, but this filled that void. on top of rothfuss, i'd recommend terry goodkind and his "sword of truth" series. great fantasy element there. (there might be some books hard to read through but the entire series in itself is excellent!)

Weeelllll, have quite a few books on my bookshelves id recommend XD. Most are part of a series though, since I dont like reading single books D:.

Harry Potter of course if you havent read it yet :D. The Inheritance Saga (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and soon to be Inheritance), Hunger Games series <3. The Warrior/Wizard/Dragon heir series, as well as Percy Jackson if you havent already read em, and the Artemis series :D.

Id add more, but... Most of the books I read are Young Adult :P.

I am a wolf in sheeps clothing, both an angel and a demon.. Your worst nightmare.

To win a fight, you dont need physical strength. You dont need to be brave, or even a good fighter. You just need to think. You need to outsmart your opponent. Oh, and not be a total wimp.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel
-- If you're into slice of life, then this one is a book you can't miss. And if the heartstring-tugging ability of the book isn't enough to capture you, then Pi's adventure with (and taming of) Richard Parker will.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon
-- We heard stories about them - those genius kids with a slight different view of the world than us and who most of the time, we can't understand. This book gives us the chance to live a page in the life of Christopher. After which, or even before the last leaf, we might smile a little.. or cry a little.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
-- The book doesn't try to scare you (I presume), there's even some romance along the way. But, somehow, reading the book alone, you'd catch yourself looking up the pages and making sure that no one is watching you.

~~

So, those are my Top 3 recommendations.. for now. :D

I'm more on classic books so if I'll recommend something it would be the liikes of SHERLOCK HOLMES volumes by sir Arthur Conan Doyle, LES MISERABLES by Victor Hugo, Charles Dickens works et cetera.

Sherlock holmes as much as the title implies is about the great detective Sherlock holmes and his witty dangerous mystery uncovering adventure with his best bud Doctor watson. If you're into mysteries and detectives this would make your day.

on the other hand, Les Miserables is about nationalism. The protagonist is jean Valjean and the story revolves around him and the civil war on france.

Can I recommend a play? Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard, The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde and The Crucible by Arthur Miller. I know it seems like the typical English reading list for English class but I have a whole new appreciation for it after studying it.

And to the novels. Depends if you like the typical teen fic to the unusual.

If you like teen romance-supernatural kind:
The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare
Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Lost Hero series by Rick Riordan
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
The Inheritance Saga by Christopher Paolini (I know I lot of people have said that LOL)
The Faerie Wars Chronicles by James Brennan

Or if you stray away from the usual:
Tamar by Mal Peet
Ursual K. Le Guin's books (sci fi for life!)
Isaac Asimov's books
Eva Ibbotson's books (I've read them all and enjoyed them)
Nicholas Spark's books (many were turned into movies)
Janet Evanovich if you like the naughty

Umm...I'm a bookworm myself but I can't recall any more...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, not nicholas sparks! lol, too much unbelievable "love is the greatest power" mush in his books for me. what's odd is that nobody mentioned john grisham. his novel "the testament" really was a touching and very relatable to me.
as for classics, you can't forget "to kill a mocking bird," and "the great gatsby." those books are just powerful.

hmm it seems this is centered on fiction so since people obviously already mentioned harry potter, I recommend these authors:

Nancy Farmer
Fyodor Dostoevsky
Franz Kafka
Albert Camus
Paulo Coelho
Khaled Hoesseini

No, not really. Tolkien is a horrible, pretentious and redundant writer. The actual world he made up is quite excellent, though.

yea, it's been reviewed for the past several decades from being terrible to excellent. I don't know but I enjoyed reading it when I was really young.
