Hi! I would like to know something about economy in japan especially about debt. Since it's a big issue in Hayate's case (and even Ruka). It was bugging me for a while now but :Can't he declare personal bankrupcy? (yeah i know it would pretty much kill the story yet there could be some tweak). I don't know about economy in Japan but here in America i would say it's pretty common sense that you wouldn't be able to survive with such a tremendous debt (i believe it's like 150, 000$ USD). Some point i would like to clear out is that : -Is shame an issue? (As to supress a dept by bankrupcy would leave such a shame and humiliation that you would preffer to go see illegal organisation to pay it off (even if this cause much more trouble in the near future)) -Is honor an issue? -Is personal bankcrupcy even legal (i.e. possible) in Japan? For additional information i did like to add that now in this era of recession and inflation personal bankrupcy has become a common way along others to ease someone's financial burden (i'm not going into details but Nagi endossing Hayate's debt is one of them.... but that lead him to be dependant (yet it seems the opposite as of how Nagi need help for almost everything) and beholden of her). Thank to enlighten me on theses questions! Legal stuff's kinda hard to understand when not sharing same culture, language and furthermore that all this is writtens in a way only an expert in legal paper (lawyer, notary) could understand.

I don't know whether declaring bankrupcy is possible for a normal household in Japan, but it's impossible either case for Hayate. The reason is that his debt is an illegal one, owed to the Yakuza (Japanese mafia) and settled by an agreement of selling his organs by his parents. I'm sure no government actually covers this kinda debt

...or do you believe, that the individual can steer the ship of self, to his port of choice, however emphatically the world may try to blow him? - JoJo
i guess you're right here M.A.D however Nagi turned it in a legal debt by paying it off to the yakuza and then making Hayate his debtor. So in a way my question still valid. (althought now it pose a problem of ethics because he has grown fond of her and her household) But in a certain way maybe he would still keep at what he's doing now because Maria and Nagi are like family for him. (But at least it wouln't stop him from accepting/giving love to others)
