My take on it was that he was walking her down the aisle. As a father does with his daughter. If she was to marry Mamoru I doubt the author/artist would have kept his face hidden in that special marriage chapter.

No, I don't think he was just walking her down the aisle, you can tell enough of the drawing that it's him and that is how she took it. Usagi Drop where he takes her in as a baby and raises her as a father - this is very different situation from that.
