First of all, this is a seinen, meaning for mature audiences, and i believe that the reason why so many people are complaining that this manga was bad and underdeveloped; is that they're immature readers (no offense just saying you haven't lived long enough ) because they either never learned to infer or that they've just not lived enough to know and understand the feelings of the characters in such a drastic situation. Firstly, just because the characters are not blatantly stating their minds, plains, convictions, personalities and putting other extravagances bare, does not mean that you can't read between the lines or just guess/imagine for yourself what the characters are like. I believe that the story plot is well developed enough, because (though i agree that part where haruka strips for the rapist is very much unrealistic) firstly: it's a short story of 40 chaps and furthermore not every life story is an epic quest of many things happening like in kami no kuni no harisugawa. >_> In life shit happens and it quite often happens that death will hit you just are you were still struggling with adapting to any drastic changes, which in this case was the whole "i'm afraid people knowing my mom is my classmate" and BAM his father dies. It's true that the beginning was wierd but then again do have the patience to consider that this is a manga and they are works of fictions not history and moreover coming up with introductions are quite difficult. In addition, to those that said this plot was weird will that is just the plot you should've read the summary so why complain about it? And to those that said that the plot was rushed; Do you know how hard it is coming up with a conclusion? Do you think you could have done better? Ha. Also what is that is just the author's ideal end and you guys just don't see it. If you lived death in a certain way then you would understand that it throws one's mind in turmoil, which means the person can utterly disregard any conventional method and this could explain why the plot might seem weird to you. Furthermore, I am curious as to what you mean exactly by "plot was rushed" because it seems like a perfectly normal manga flow of events. Rather I think that young noobs ( or mistakenly condescending youthful readers) are just pushing their ideals onto what they read and when it does not match, they rage and regard the author in contempt for not matching their standards. From what i read not many of you had any backed-up statements as to why it was rushed or that the plot was garbage. I wonder what it is they find so weird in the story that they think is the author's fault at delivering in her/his story because it's not a long standing work like naruto (for example) where one would have sufficient amount of time to incorporate past stories and mental hurdles that would allow a reader to deduct what reaction a certain main character have in whatever context. I think that for a small work such as this one, the author did a decent job and gave a decent ending that didin't fall into harem-service, where Ryou would end up with haruka, yuka AND Leo and heck why not the school nurse too . though this is still a possibility since the author left this ending open enough, or a shit end where Ryou could leave haruka to be with yuka, which would be quite odd since they had at one point seen each other in a mother soon relationship, just to satisfy those incest-lovers out there ,not judging just saying that that makes the story pointless if he marries his "stepmom" and just stops caring about people seeing them as in love because then all the drama beforehand becomes moot. In regards to the "characters were badly developed", I just don't what you mean, Ryou's story seems pretty clear, Haruka is a normal girl that's insecure about herself (if you dated insecure girls you'd know) , though yuka is a bit queer in her choice in men it is fully valid that as an orphan child who gets attached to her doctor, her only benefactor she would behave the way she did (heck with girls in china raping old men, anything is possible!) and shuuichi is one of those support character friend who helps out the main character, he wasn't really useless since he was the perv factor in this story and also he helped Ryou as his friend with the moving and hell, have you guys never had a friend? Not all friends stick together like glue and obsess over each other like in the naruxsasu relationship where they both chase each other's tail and stick through everything. Get out and make more friends. Shuuichi is what i would call a more normal and stable best friend that helps a guy out, rather he could be downgraded to a roommate, 'cuz sometimes it happens like that "hey man , you and your gf moving in together? Hey can i bunk down with you guys?" it happens, so just calling him a shit and complaning that he didin't do much and that he shouldn't be related to the ending solution as he is now is unjustified.
In conclusion. for those who did not feel like reading all that, saying stuff like "oh it was insufficiently developed" or 'oh THIS didint happend' or there wasn't enough of THAT or its unrealistic, it really is unjustified :/ AND unfair because it is realistic if you think about the whole story and the psychological state of the characters. Please go have another read and maybe you'll see it. The events of this manga are not that impossible and their portrayals are not so inept since people ARE irrational about love and death does put your mind in disorder and not everyone's life is a canvas.

The reaction and dialogue of the characters became unrealistic as the result, with the unnecessary drama - a girl walking to a possible rape scene and instead of calling for cops, she listen to the guy and strip (WTF!);

Really too much drama with the whole truth that she is the MC mother (you know the scene where the MC friend punch him to make him decisive that used usually in a shounen manga, that scene failed big time as the reason he punch him is not to open his eyes but simply because he doesn't know she is his mother)

Well despite all my complaint, I'm happy that the author try to solve all the relationship problem in this manga and not give open relationship ending like in a normal harem manga

can't wait for the extra special .5 chapters of ogata san moving in ;D
