I don't understand why people think this is great. I've given it a couple of tries, but I just never got into it. Is anyone willing to explain why this is supposed to be good?

Because opinions you moron

What usually get you into a Manga, anyway? If you enumerate them and Kingdom possibly doesn't fall into into it, then you'd probably really won't get into it.

page 18, he's alive(probably)

I did not see his head fly off so he is alive(probably)

Normally when vital characters die, they are highlighted(probably)

That was so sad

I truly enjoyed Earl Shi's brief flash back this chapter. Hara's art and superb narration (combined with Turnip Farmers' excellent translations) really resonate with me, more so than almost any other manga I've read.

Don't worry i bet he survives.

Now i still don't think that this strategy means that they outplayed their enemies, for me it all looks like they just make the ground even, so is not like they have a vastly better strategist, indeed Jun Sou was awaiting to see what the real move was, and i am sure he will be able to react to this just fine.

Thanks to you saying that I finally realised what ten real strategy is, and believe me when I said ten is a genius after all :D

Spoiler

I thought the plan was for Kyoukai to kidnap their strategist. Again. Kinda disappointed it didn't happen. Would have been hilarious.

Reading the s*itty sarcastic replies I got back in return, the realism I mean in Game of Thrones is that the protagonist(good guys) actually get killed.  Ouhon was overly matched in every aspect of the fight and the explanation of Ouhon's basic training is full of s**t.  It would have been highly acceptable to me if Earl was killed from a stray arrow instead of falling to Ouhon.  If we are going to use shounen manga as an excuse why enemies lose, I can start expecting Shin to get both his arms and legs cut off and still somehow win by the willpower explanation while he's ripping their throats off by teeth.

My heart almost torn to pieces when they slash en T^T

I'm curious too

And.. damn... I've caught up.

I'll be back in a couple months.

the author will probably make a arc about the empress(i belive they said the first woman to give birth will be an empress) political arc probably

You do realise that Ouhan was an actual person, so the mangaka can't just kill whoever he wants.
Besides, Ouhan clearly explained how he defeated Earl.
Also plot armour of this calibur existed since the first chapters.

I think the problem is not that they win but how. I particularly dislike how each and every Battle needs to end in a Duel, but meh its kinda part of the Manga's flow, i agree with that one

Protagonist is getting dominated by a vastly superior antagonist in every single way. Protagonist sustains several wounds and is bleeding everywhere while also being extremely fatigued. The Antagonist is untouched and isn't tired. Protagonist suddenly gains ridiculous skill from nowhere and manages to beat a vastly superior opponent despite being weaker, younger, less skilled, wounded, and fatigued.

Rinse wash repeat.

This manga had so much potential. Shame that an aspect of it is so terribly written.

Implying Game of Thrones is realistic

are you suggesting that dragons and magic aren't real?!  lies!

reading the comments, apparently some people dont realize that this series is based on historical fact.  naturally the author is taking liberties for dramatic effect, and the historic record doesn't contain every tiny little detail that happened, but basically all of the key points actually happened.  there is no "plot armor" in this manga, just "historical fact".  there's also no "spoilers" because everything that happened in the story happened thousands of years ago.

No point hoping for realism unless this is Game of Thrones.

What I'm observing is NOT a manga falling into shonen depravity.

What I'm observing is childish commenters not acting their age, and switching from reading many new chapters every week to only one chapter per week.

I haven't read this series for 2-3 months. Just letting them stockpile Baby! (That's some recent influence of Space Dandy talking there)

I actually liked how Ouhon defeated Earl Shi. The Earl actually made me think of what would have happened if Kyoukai hadn't met Shin.

Spoiler

But to put it in concrete terms of how Ouhon won, Ouhon exploited a personality flaw in his enemy. The enemy was stronger and faster but he never bothered to defend himself as if his life depended on it. Once Ouhon figured out this weak point and gotten used to his enemy's technique, he can just wait for an opening to land a killing blow using the techniques he's practiced all throughout his life. This doesn't mean Ouhon was suddenly stronger or faster - this just meant he was smarter and more adaptable compared to a guy who had the mindset of a walking corpse.

Okay, let me spell it out. Ouhon beating Earl Shi is aggravating mostly because he is not the MC. Shin is. If it was Shin, I could digest this more easily. Heck, I'm sure the author would not have done such a hurried and shallow job of the two duels if it was Shin.

As it is, Ouhon is not the MC. He's a rival to the MC and a major character in the story, so that might be enough reason to give him plot armor and have him overcome overwhelming odds. The problem is that Ouhon has been around for a long time in the manga and this is the first time he's doing something that only shounen MCs are supposed to be capable of. The fight started with him at an impossible position too.

Well, this just means the author has plans for Shin's two rivals; something we can look forward to. Preparation for another major downsizing of Chinese population, maybe? :P Anyway, I'm sure things will even out once Shin overcomes that big oaf who the lieutenant said was uber strong.

You do know that the series and a lot of its cast is based on history?  (incl. Ouhon) Its not completely the authors whim who lives or die (except of course for the character he made up) but its his choice regarding how he will bring it.

TIL that the majority of the people who read Kingdom are whiny crybabies who start bitching the moment they don't get what they expect.  There's no "it should be like this", or  "this could never happen."  It's a god damn story and let it be told by the writer, not by yourself.

Just because it's not the MC, doesnt mean he doesn't deserve glory

Latest chapter was bullshit nobody can not deny that. But that is what the entire series so far has been. Peasant Shin at what?, 13 years, managed to kill assasins and royal guards.

The fun of this manga lies somewhat in its ridiculousness so appreciate it for what it gives ( over the top action) not for what it does not (consistency and realism).

For anybody looking for more realism and storyI recomend Vinland Saga.
