Like lalalami said, the first arc was really well done.  I might have liked it better for the 'sometimes life sucks and we live anyway' moral.  Not all the time mind you.  No, I like happy endings as well as the next hopeless romantic (as much as possible at my age), but once in a while...  Yeah, once in a while it's okay to be reminded of that.

The shorts are all good as well.  "About Him" made me all tearful and quietly sniffling, glancing sideways at my spouse to make sure I wasn't found out, crying over short stories at my computer.

The main story broke my heart, but more specifically, it was all Sudo's fault and as dark as it is, it really is well done. And the oneshots after are all so special, I especially liked "Roses, Thorns, and a Shattering Clang" and "About Him" because they were just beyond words.

Yamashita Tomoko has a knack for heartfelt storytelling, not to mention how great I find her art (as unconventional as it looks, I think it's perfection).
