I don't think it was the dark, but just the actual assault. From my experience, it's really hard to respond appropriately to those situations, unless you are trained directly for them. A sport martial arts class and a women's self defense class teach totally different things, precisely because of this sort of thing. In a self defense class your 'sparring partner' will come up behind you and grab you and those sorts of things, so that you become trained to respond 'correctly.' A sport martial artist is taught to respond 'correctly' to an opponent 'across' from them- in the ring, so to speak.
I've actually been the victim of a violent crime (mugging) before, back when I was 17. I had been in taekwondo for a few years, previously, but when it happened, I initially just... shut down. Like, I couldn't believe it was really happening. "He must be from the office, here to tell us about the continental breakfast," I kept thinking, inanely. It didn't make any sense, didn't process. I couldn't understand what was happening, and react appropriately, even though I had the skills to do so. (Don't worry- it all ended okay and he was chased off with minimal damage. I did take a telephone to the forehead when I finally 'woke up,' though. /laugh) That's why, in college, I took an elective self-defense course, instead.

seto was better. i'd only take kiritani in a sailor uniform. or the gloomy version, that was kinda cute.
the girl was really cute though. only flaw in her is that she froze in fear just because it was dark, i don't feel like believing in that

I can't help but root for Seto, I like his personality and the whole childhood friend trope, but of course he won't be chosen.
That whole non-chalant/arrogant attitude is just what I like.
I hope he doesn't become a major antagonist...

Oh shoot Kiritani cut his hair, I liked his hair, sigh, but he still looks cute. And them admitting their feelings was really cute. poor Seto, but I was routing for Kiritani so what can I say.
