Actually, as of 2011, Hata posted on his twitter that Hayate is 60% complete. I doubt the manga would even get pass 600, let alone a 1000 (even with the constant stalling of episodic chapters).

Following what you said if I cross-multiply it give between 526 to 675 chapters [(316/x=60/100)->x=526 ; (405/x=60/100)->x=675] (i know it isn't exact because its based on the latest release (and aproximation), also i don't have the right time when Hata actually said that to work out the closest chapter to this date)

P.S.: Also note that the mangaka's plans may have changed by now (if his tweet date from 2011)

After reading the last page, that gave me a feeling that the manga will hit its ending not far in the future.  Before all that we must know who will take Hayate between Ruka, Maria, Hina and A-tan.

Remember, this manga timeline is really, really 10x slow...

400 chapters and we only halfway through the year.

If Hata sensei keep this pacing up, maybe the end of Hayate's butler days is in 300-400 chapters more which is really amazing for comedy manga.

That was the absolutely most obvious show of foreshadowing ever.

I remember Hata stated somewhere that the manga would end chronologically after 1 year, and he was a little more than halfway done w/ the manga at the time (around Ruka's introduction I think). Not much of a surprise, but then you realize there are only a couple of months left. I hope we get another Golden Week-esque arc before the last arc, which also should be just as amazing.
