Well, she is making it into a manga this time, so just for fan service the author just might let them both live.
Too bad the oneshot didn't end like that...

The original didn't have a tragic ending. How should I put it without spoilers, it ended the way the same way it would have ended had god not interfered. The difference was the events during the oneshot gave them both something special.
I'd rather them die together than one of them live on alone. Its the only tragic ending I wouldn't completely hate
I'm just hoping, please don't drag the story! Just end it when it's suppose to end! After 7 days in the story!

Thought it would be more on the lines of cliche but damn that legitimately surprised me! Well done Kouji!
Say he continues chasing his passion for art. It fails, as it clearly has now. Than now the father is supposed to take him on in his company as if nothing has happened? As what, the toilet cleaner? His art degree has not imparted him with the necessary skills to work in a regular managerial position. I'm surprised the father is even considering employing him even now. If I were the father, I'd tell the brat that since he ignored my advice, he should deal with the consequences. Once he takes up a major in art, a guaranteed position in my company would be forever closed.
I am sure the girl's perspective of her story will be revealed by the next few chapters or even on the 7th day maybe just so it 'balances' things (who deserves to die more) up.
On the realism versus dreams argument tho, it's really a to-each-his-own affair. I know people who would go all out for their dreams and some who would just go for a steadfast, stable path even if he/she does not love what he/she is doing; none is right or wrong and afterall MC's setting is in Manga where realism is really of non-concern, monetary concerns really did not seem like an issue but also not the main gist of this story line that mainly see 2 persons get connected through a bizarre event where these 2 probably realize the value of living at the end and maybe some romance.

His Dad is forcing him to take a job he doesn't want. If it were just giving him job security he wouldn't talk like that. Or the Dad happens to have no social skills. A good father would make sure his son knew he had security if he needed it instead of pressuring him into a lifelong job he doesn't want before he's even finished school. FFS his grandmother begged him to let his son go for his dream as one of the last few things she was lucid for before succumbing to Alzheimer's. To me the father's just an overprotective dolt who doesn't trust the son he raised to do the right thing.
Why the girl attempted to kill herself is extremely unclear at this point.
Just because your life isn't as absolutely shitty as an African orphan's doesn't mean you should be grateful for not being a malaria stricken homeless person every moment of every day.
